Cruel Work is a cello and electronics project which began in 2015. Cruel Work combines text, storytelling, and sound in a flexible instrumentation for solo performer. Cruel Work typically combines cello, electronics, recitation, text, and found sound in her performances and iterations.
Cruel Work is Angela Roberts on cello, tapes, and various electronic instruments. This special KZSU performance stars Scott Goff on the digital signal processing machines.
Angela and Scott have a performance history spanning over five hundred years as improvisors, composers, live DJs, performance art, and visual artists in exciting locales, including John Benson’s bus, New Orleans, Jacksonville, Seoul, Jeju Island, Chiang Mai, Bruxelles, and locally in now decrepit diy spaces and the ancient warehouses of the Bay Area.
Angela is also 1/16th of FootSOS, and her teeth reach all the way around the back of her head. She also has an active print and 2d practice, and often publishes zine rarities under the name Supertrooper.
